Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • To establish a network of surveillance nodes across Europe
  • To build long-term capacities and partnerships for active surveillance of HPAI viruses in wild birds
  • To complement already existing (e.g., in wild birds found dead) or planned surveillance activities
  • To provide a pipeline for rapid detection and identification of avian influenza viruses
  • To get a fuller picture of avian influenza viruses circulating in Europe and thereby increase the genetic pool available for further analyses

  • Establishment of capacities and infrastructure
  • Preparation of sampling plans
  • Execution of fieldwork (trapping/hunting, sampling, and identification of wild birds)
  • Rapid diagnostic testing for HPAI viruses
  • Whole genome sequencing of positive samples
  • Data collation and analysis
  • Communication of results to relevant stakeholders

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be on the list of competent organisations designated by the Member States in accordance with Article 36 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 and Commission Regulation (EC) No 2230/2004 (Click here)
  • A consortium composed of at least 1 entities, established in at least 1 different EU Member States or associated countries to the programme must be constituted
